Bijoux is for Kids, too!
This past Sunday, The Dixon Gallery & Gardens opened the doors to its newest exhibition Bijoux parisiens: French Jewelry from the Petit Palais, Paris.
In conjunction with its dazzling debut, the Dixon seeks to open the minds of its younger visitors by offering an interactive room where children can unleash their creativity and escape into their imaginations as professional jewelers. This magical place is called “Bijoux Studio.”
With illustrations and panel designs by local Memphis artist, Shane McDermott, the Bijoux Studio features four main components:
To the Drawing Board! Before making the jewelry, the artists go through a detailed process of drawing the designs. So, it’s your turn to be a jewelry designer ready to sketch your next piece. Get creative and design one of a kind piece!
Fasten your Fashion Belt: Belt buckles can be jewelry too! Can you put together an exclusive design?
Make it Work! The new jewelry line Bijoux is ready. You are a professional model hired for a photo session that will be used in banners and publications to help promote the new line. Make this Bijoux Line shine!
Using hands-on activities, kids will explore the art and business of jewelry making from concept to finished product, rock identification to drawing techniques, and even marketing and promotion. Also featured is a small area for reading with books provided by The Memphis Library.
For the younger kiddos, there is a place with beads and blocks activities. Bijoux Studio is recommended for ages 6-12.
